Frequently Asked Questions
There are many questions which we are frequently asked about club life and events. We have tried to answer many of them below.
1. What is RR10 and how do I enter?
RR10 is more about fun for the majority of us. With HERC you are sure to be welcomed and supported. I can honestly say no matter what your pace is, there will be others faster and slower than you. The events take place on a Wednesday night, throughout April to August with start times between 19:00 – 19:30hrs. Full race lists and venues can be found on the RR10 website here: http://www.rr10.hampshire.org.uk/ RR10 originally was a series of 10 road races organised by local clubs, however they grew in popularity to such an extent that it became necessary to move them off roads and into local country parks. Race istances are all around the 5 mile mark and they will be held on a mixture of trails, woods, shingle, fields and anything else that comes with off road running, sometimes even beaches! All races are free to enter; there is no need to pre register. All you need do is turn up in your HERC official club kit (the red, white and Blue). Lift shares are usually arranged via the club facebook page prior to race night. No race numbers will be allocated to runners, we just simply congregate at the start and off we go. In all the races there will be a finish funnel similar to Parkrun. Keep running through the funnel, there will be other finishers behind you that may have nowhere to go if you suddenly stop. At the end of the funnel you will be given a lottery ticket which is basically your finishing position. You then give this ticket to our club rep for the night; he or she will then record your finishing position against your name. Then magically the next day the results are published online. After you finish there will be Cake!!! The faster ones will have to wait for the cake, slower ones will be pleasantly surprised when they finish. Never touch a cake tin until the baker has formally sanctioned it!!!!! You have been warned. The day after results will be published online. You will receive an
individual score and HERC will receive team scores based on finishing positions. More information on how the scoring works can be found here http://www.rr10.hampshire.org.uk/currentrules.html One comment runners have made to me in the past is that it is refreshing not to have a finishing time recorded against you, just a position. You can therefore run unhampered by what the pace on your GPS says, you are not chasing PB’s as you won’t get one.
The choice of footwear is a difficult one. In the past conditions have ranged from dry to monsoon, the choice of footwear is purely up to you and what you have available. Don’t be afraid to ask other club members; everyone is always keen to share their knowledge. Most of all I'd like to emphasise, these races are brilliant, and no matter what your ability you will love them and be back for more.

3. What is the HRRL and how do I enter?
The Hampshire Road Race League (HRRL) is an annual series of road races for all runners from participating clubs in the County of Hampshire and closely surrounding clubs.
There are 12 races a season from September to May.
To enter the league you have to be a member of a participating running club (non club runners can race the events but their positions do not count towards the league placing).
To enter the races within the league you need to enter via the website as you would usually ensuring you cite your UK Athletics Number and your club as Hedge End Running Club. Remember to wear your vest when you race!
Individuals score points from their finishing positions in the races.
There are separate leagues for women and men, both for teams and individuals.
League A has 3 divisions. League B has 2 divisions.
