Hedge End Running Club member or performance of the month for May 2013 is Carol Sergeant. She showed such great determination in finishing the Edinburgh marathon. "An amazing, fantastic inspiration". She got tripped at 10 miles, got up and continued running well until 18 miles, but then things started to unravel a bit, where she threw up, fainted, then got going again after 1.5 hours in an ambulance to finish in just over 6 hours. If that wasn't enough she got 7 family and friends to marshall at the Marwell 10K and baked cakes for the mens RR10 Race 2 team at the last minute!! Well done Carol, well deserved. As recognition she will receive £20's worth of vouchers to spend at Alton Sports in Eastleigh. The award is voted for by the members of the committee and the result was unanimous. In addition the following people were also nominated: Anna Smith-James- Moors Valley10K win Steve Kivlochan - Never knows when to slow down Bernie Dutton - Netley 10K first in age category and a couple of PB's at Parkrun Matt Gardner - For work on the website and run leading The list could go on and on with so many inspiring performances by members in the month of May.
The endure 24 team of Cliff, Bernie, Charlie, Karen, Sarah, Alex and Gavin finished 9th overall in the mixed team out of 55 completing 35 laps of 5 miles (175 miles) in 23 hours 57 minutes. Great running guys and gals! Another 7 PB's at Netley this week, plus 3 other events with representation. Another excellent Hedge End turn out to a very hot, dusty and muddy RR10 at Blackfield last night. Results can be found here http://www.rr10.hampshire.org.uk/.
