2017 Lakeside 5K Series - Race #3 - Results

29/6/2017

Lovely conditions for running last night - no wind, overcast, slight drizzle, not too warm.... and some very impressive times from Hedgies that went along to Lakeside for round 3 of the 5 race series. The club was represented by 13 members - 11 men but only 2 women. Well done to all runners and supporters. Come on Ladies! - why not give these races a go. There are still two more races this year - on the 26th of July and the 30th of August..
Well done to Matt Risden, Chris Winbourne and Tim Ford for 5K PB's and to Robbie Macnab and Richard Allen for Season Bests. Also congratulations to Melanie Ford for coming 1st in her age category.

Picture
As previously,  Stubbington Green Runners would be delighted to welcome some friendly rivalry from Hedge End Running Club and Fareham Crusaders in the 6:05 Special - The summer version of this popular run up and down the Wickham Railway line.

This will be held on FRIDAY the 7th of July.

This is a fun social event with no entry fee. It's out and back on a course of about 10K AND there's a 5K option too this time.

We're meeting at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start (and there is no entry fee!!).

The start can be found on the north side of Wickham, just off Mill Lane which is a short walk from Wickham Square, however there is some parking in the cul-de-sac by Mill Lane, right by the start.

After the run, we will retire to The Black Dog, Waltham Chase for replenishment!

SO REMEMBER, the 6:05 Special departs the Old Wickham Halt at 7pm on Friday 7th July - Don't miss the train!!
(It's free to enter by the way!)

Tuesday HERC Summer Intervals at the Botley Centre

26/6/2017

With the success of last weeks Summer Intervals session at the Botley Centre, we plan on using the Botley Centre each week through the summer, apart from the 4th July and the 8th August  when we will still meet at the Ageas for a Hill Session.  The Tuesday Track Intervals sessions will continue as normal at Southampton Sports Centre.

The sessions planned for the next couple of months are shown below, thank you to Marie Droniou-Bordry for coming up with the plan.   As ever you should always check the training calendar as the authority source:  https://tockify.com/hedgeend.runningclub/agenda
Picture
There are two options for parking, within the centre car park itself or in the Botley Health Centre Car park which is adjacent to the recreation ground.

Botley Centre Map
Picture

Botley Health Centre Map

Picture
Address: Botley Centre, 93 High St, Botley, Southampton SO30 2ES

The reason for this change is two fold,

1. There are no places available at the Ageas to build a flat circuit through the summer months, due to the grandstands being erected on the concourse.
2. The Botley Centre provides ample parking and the ability to run on grass or trail depending on the session planned.

Let us know if you have any questions

2017 RR10 Cross Country #7 - Event Info

Unfortunately due to a conflicting event organised by Marwell Zoo, the RR10 that was due to be held at Marwell on Wednesday the 5th of July has had to be cancelled.
The race hosts, Eastleigh Running Club, are working hard to find an alternative venue and it's hoped that the race can be rearranged for a later date in August - hopefully on Wednesday the 9th of August. .

The final race of this season's Hampshire Road Race League was held in near perfect running conditions today. Many thanks to Lordshill Road Runners for putting on a great race - the first time that this 10K has featured as a league race.
There was a great turn out from Hedge End - well done to all the runners and supporters that travelled down the M27 to the Ordnance Survey being used as race HQ.  .
There's been a slight blip with the results, however provisional results as published at the moment are as follows:

2017 RR10 Cross Country #6 - Results

22/6/2017

Many thanks to all Hedgies, family and friends that volunteered to marshal at last night's Manor Farm RR10, which was held in very warm conditions.

Your involvement makes a massive difference to HERC. Not only does it allow the club to host a cross country race and therefore continue to participate in the RR10 league, it also enhances the club's reputation in the local running community.

The positive, supportive attitude of the marshals received many complimentary comments from last night's competitors. You're all a great credit to the club!

It may seem a lot of effort for a brief moment, particularly in the early stages when everyone's bunched up together, however a marshal in position could be the difference between runners following the correct route or not. Thanks also to those marshals in the later stages that stayed in position until all the runners had been safely seen through.

There were 200 men and 159 women that finished the race. The men's race was won by Nick Buis of Totton and the ladies race by Ellie Monks of Southampton.

Hedge End Running Club Member of the Month for May 2017

15/6/2017

The May Member of the Month award is presented to Mark Chamberlain.

Mark joined the club last year and has been a stalwart for the Men’s A team in the Hampshire Road Running League this season, competing in 8 of the races including coming 3rd at the Club Championships at Hayling in November.

He then went on to produce a series of stunning marathon results, completing the Heartbreak Marathon in 3:16 at the end of February and the London Marathon in 3:08 in April before completing the Dorchester Marathon in 2:59 at the end of May, becoming only the second HERC runner to run a sub-3 hour marathon on a notoriously hilly course.

Very well done Mark, and a very deserving winner!

Well done to all Hedgies that participated in this year's Endure 24 at Wasing Park over the weekend. This is an event at which friendships are formed, camaraderie both within the club and with other runners/clubs is amazing, and personal and team running goals are pushed to the limit and extended beyond comfort zones.

2017 RR10 Cross Country #6 - Event Info

12/6/2017

It's Hedge End Running Club's turn to host the next RR10 cross country race at Manor Farm on the 21st of June. Please could we have a good turn out of Hedgies to marshal the event and support the other clubs. A link to the signup.com event is below for those that haven't yet volunteered.

The event info sent to the other clubs in the league is as follows:

Hedge End Running Club has the pleasure of hosting Race #6 of the 2017 RR10 series. This will take place on Wednesday the 21st of June at Manor Farm Country Park, which is on the outskirts of Hedge End, just off Junction 8 of the M27. The nearest postcode is SO31 1BH… Link to Map

The drop out club is New Forest Runners.

Route:
The route is the same as the past few years. It is a single lap of about 5 miles with a small climb towards the end of the race. The course map can be downloaded from here.

Safety:
The course is mainly dry at the moment, although one section in the woods is quite muddy and trail shoes are recommended. Spikes are not suitable. The dry weather in the Spring has exposed more tree roots than normal, which we will try and mark wherever possible. There are narrow sections through the woods and a very uneven section along a bridleway where extra care should be taken.

Parking:
As ever, we expect parking to be tight, so please car share as much as possible. There will be no parking charges for the evening, so there is no need to buy a parking ticket. Please do not park on the access road outside the Country Park entrance. We plan to fill the car parks closest to the entrance first and work back towards the start. This will hopefully help avoid congestion with cars attempting to leave the park being blocked by runners arriving. Please follow the Car Park marshals’ instructions and be aware of traffic while walking along the road to the start area.

General Notes:
  • The start is 19:30 prompt.  Please allow time to arrive, park and get to the start.
  • We do not have exclusive access to the Country Park, which is popular with dog walkers, cyclists, and other users, so please be considerate to the local residents. If the weather is fine, there may also be families picnicking in the Country Park.
  • We have been promised that the Ladies and Gents toilets in Barnfield will be left unlocked for the race.
  • The Start and Finish will be in Barnfield
  • The route is a mixture of grass, gravel paths, trails and bridleways, with muddy sections through fields and copses and along the river bank. Tree roots, ruts, large stones, low branches, posts, steps, bridges and a cheeky incline at the end are some of our interesting features. These will be indicated by marshals where possible.
  • If you have a car, please leave the Country Park by 9.10pm… the entrance gate for vehicles is locked at 9.15pm
We look forward to seeing you all next week!
