The June Member of the Month award is presented to Becky Woollard.

Becky did a solo entry to Endure24 this year, completing an amazing 10 laps despite back pain. If that wasn't enough, she has recently stepped up to become a run leader, having been a regular helper on Thursday evenings and now assisting with the Monday Evening sessions.
To top it off, she is a friendly face to new members of the club, and a bubbly and supportive figure for less confident members of the club.

After dropping the Janesmoor Pond, Stoney Cross race last year, by popular demand from our members, this venue was reintroduced for HERC for the 2017 season. Some heavy rain the day before spiced up the conditions a bit and we saw a little bit of mud for just about the first time in an RR10 this year.
A fantastic turn out by runners and supporters as usual - well done to everyone that made the journey to the New Forest. Many thanks to Wessex RR and Romsey RR for hosting the race.

After hosting race 6 at Manor Farm followed by the postponed race at Marwell, it was good for Hedgies to get back to competing in an RR10 yesterday evening.
A great turn out from the club saw 29 men and 8 women runners plus supporters travel to Whiteley for the race hosted by Stubbington. Well done to everyone that travelled and also to the 7 men and 2 ladies that have run in all 5 races that we've competed in this year.

Berni Dutton was awarded a Lifetime Membership of Hedge End Running Club at the Summer Social event held on Friday the 7th of July. 
As a founder member and the first Chairman of the Club, Berni was responsible for anything and everything to do with the training and coaching side of the club when it was first set up, back in November 2012. At our first AGM, in April 2013, Berni took on the role of Training Director and everyone in HERC should be extremely grateful to Berni for all the hard work he's put into the club. 
In August 2017, Berni and Maureen will be moving to Devon, so the Committee wanted to recognise Berni's contribution to the club by awarding him with a Lifetime Membership and presenting him a framed certificate. 
Thank-you Berni... enjoy your retirement in the West Country!

With only a week between RR10 numbers 7 and 8, the event info for race #8 has been provided before #7 has been held...

This race is being hosted by Wessex RR & Romsey RR at Janesmoor Pond, New Forest on Wednesday the 19th July 2017 with a  7:30pm START
 
How to get there :- M27 West, leave at Junction 1.  At roundabout take B3079 to Brook then left at fork onto B3078.  Turn next left  (after golf course) .  Keep left, Janesmoor Pond car park approx. 1 mile.

Please car share & arrive in good time.   Latecomers may have a 15 – 20 minute walk to the start.

Car Parking :- Please park as instructed by the marshals and DO NOT park on grass verges.  Forest animals can walk out onto the road from behind vehicles and not be seen by oncoming vehicles.
 
Facilities :-  There are no toilets or changing facilities.
 
Course :-  Same as last year – 2 loops on forest paths and gravel tracks. 4.8 miles app. 

Due to the cancelled event at Marwell, the remaining RR10 races are renumbered - so #7 is now the race hosted by Stubbington on the 12th of July.

Whiteley RR10 – 12th July @ 7.30

July 12th sees Stubbington Green Runners host the next race  at Whiteley Woods, Whiteley.

Whiteley is accessed from junction 9 of the M27, from here head straight over the first roundabout towards ‘Whiteley Shopping’ & ‘Cinema’. At the second roundabout you will see marshals.
Parking is free from 6pm within Whiteley Shopping centre/area, we suggest parking at the front end (By the Marks & Spencer) as this is nearest to the start. Alternatively the roads around the business park can also be used for parking.
The post code for Whiteley Shopping Centre is: PO15 7LJ.
 
Public toilet facilities are available within the shopping centre if required.
 
The start is a 10 minute walk, deep into the forest, so please allow time. Marshals will be on hand to direct you.
 
This is a new course of approx. 4.5 miles, one ;lap running through Whiteley Pastures and Botley Woods, run on, gravel tracks, forest trails and recreational paths. There will be mud so we strongly recommend running in trail shoes, our advice is to not run in road shoes. The usual hazards will apply, this is an off road event, held within a forest enclosure and as such, bumps, lumps, dips and hills along with tree roots are all present, these will be marked, but please, as ever take care.
 
NOTE: Nowhere near as wet/muddy as last year!
 
This course is not suitable for spikes.

Following the cancellation of RR10 #7, which was to be held at Marwell this Wednesday the 5th of July, the race has now been reorganised by Eastleigh Running Club 

The race will be held at the University Sports Ground, Wide Lane. Eastleigh on Wednesday the 23rd of August, commencing at 7.00pm. Parking there is excellent and the course is fast and flat. The drop out club will be Hardley Runners.

As Hedge End Running Club has already dropped a race and has also hosted a race, we can participate in all of the remaining five races.

The AGM of the Hampshire Road Race League was held on Monday the 26th of June. The main item on the agenda was the selection of the road races for the 2017/18 season. There were 14 events on the short list that needed to be reduced to 12. The two new events on the list this year were the Fleet ½ Marathon and the Fleet 10K. The Fleet ½ Marathon is scheduled for the 18th March 2018, the same day as the Eastleigh 10K so if there was a preference for the Fleet ½ Marathon, the Eastleigh 10K would not be part of the league next year. Voting took place and there was overwhelming support for maintaining the current races, so Fleet will not form part of the league next year.

It was also confirmed that the annual Road Race Relay, which incorporates the Hampshire Road Relay Championships will take place at Lakeside North Harbour in Cosham and will follow the same format as last year. After two years with an April date this year’s relay will take place on the 10th September 2017. The relay is open to all members with teams consisting of 3 runners. Each runner will run 2 laps of 2.38km.  Clubs can enter as many teams as they like and there will be age-group prizes up to M60 & F60. There will also be an under-11 race before the main race gets under way. Details of the race and an application form are on the Hampshire Athletics website.

Following the twelfth and final race of the 2016/17 season at the Lordshill 10K last Sunday, the leagues have been updated with the final positions.

Hedge End Running Club has three ladies and three men teams in the A and B Leagues. The men's teams are made up of 4 runners and the ladies are teams of three. The men's final position is determined by the best nine results of the 12 races and the ladies from the best eight results.

Ladies 'A'  - 3rd place in Division 1 of the A League (up from 4th place last year)
Ladies 'B' - 4th place in Division 1 of the B League (down from 3rd place last year)
Ladies 'C' - 10th place in Division 1 of the B League (promoted from Divn 2 to Divn 1 last year)
Men's 'A' - 1st place in Division 2 of the A League (up from 4th place last year)
Men's 'B' - 3rd place in Division 1 of the B League (up from 5th place last year)
Men's 'C' - 13th place in Division 1 of the B League (promoted from Divn 2 to Divn 1 last year)

Winchester won the Ladies A league and Southampton won the Men's A league.
